Connie Self

Connie Self started hiking and canoeing with her family as a child, growing up in San Diego, CA and spending summers on the lakes of Minnesota. Climbing, backpacking and roadtrips across the west came into her life with friends in high school and college. Connie worked at Adventure 16 Outdoor and Travel Outfitters for 11 years, starting in sales and teaching climbing and backpacking, working her way up to Vice President of Retail Operations, running 6 stores and the Wilderness Outings Program, then heading up Corporate Training for all divisions (Wholesale, Factory, Retail, Wilderness Outings). Connie has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Alaska, Canada, Europe, Peru, Russia, India, and Bhutan in the Himalaya. Connie's love of mountains was the basis for her longtime friendsip and then romantic and business partnership with Jeff Lowe. She produced the award winning documentary film Jeff Lowe's Metanoia. She remains the Director of the Jeff Lowe Mountain Foundation and Adaptable Man, LLC - the 2 companies that Jeff Lowe started and entrusted to Connie as his health declined. Jeff and Connie loved and were big supporters of George and the Himalayan Stove Project. They hoped to work with HSP in some meaningful way. Connie is thrilled to now share in the amazing work of saving lives in one of the places that Jeff loved and climbed for many years.
