In the spring of 1980, Quigley and his partner were lucky enough to spend a month in Nepal after medical school graduation. They were even luckier to get on an Annapurna trek one month after the Chinese reopened travel through the Manang area for this first time in a decade. Over three subsequent return trips, Quigley developed a fondness for the both the culture and the landscape in which it has evolved.

     The most recent trip was to Dolpo, Nepal working as a high altitude physician and production assistant on a film crew. This trip was memorable because it involved transporting and installing an HSP stove. This was captured a video clip we made for George Basch. The joy and amazement in the eyes of the recipients was truly memorable.     

     The medical work Quigley engaged in on all my Himalayan trips has given a rare insight into the austere conditions in which folks live in the high Himalayas. George suggested he apply for a board position in order to add a medical and high altitude perspective to HSP.

      Current medical work includes operating the Mogul Medical clinic in Taos Ski Valley, NM and also working as an attending physician in the ER at Bartlett regional Hospital in Juneau, AK.

      He serves as Medical Director for the Southeast Region EMS Council, which provides training and support for EMS services in thirty seven roadless communities in Southeast Alaska. He also provides medical direction for Capital City Fire in Juneau, the Taos Ski Valley Ski Patrol and the Village of Taos Ski Valley EMS. He is an active member of the Alaska Medical Direction Committee and has completed a project on the revision of EMS scope of practice for the State Alaska.

     Quigley has served on numerous local boards in the Taos area while raising four children here. The Himalayan Stove Project fits nicely into his portfolio as he reduces the number of days he practices medicine.
